After getting hit by an enemy, Yoshi has to pay the price (stars being deducted) no matter what.
The more delay- the more stars it will cost Yoshi.

Enemies are being very mean to Yoshi. They push Yoshi around and make him pay the price by having stars deducted. In other word, Yoshi has to pay the price when he gets hit by an enemy. This means "Nothing is free".
