  • Long Sun (and New Sun) were AMAZING.

  • @11679MRT New sun pretty much ruined all other books for me... I find that I would rather read it again than read anything else. Gene Wolfe is the philosopher stone

  • Gene Wolfe for Calde

  • @tehnoobshow94 i forgot

  • i kill giants

  • One correction: The description says November 2006, but Balticon 40 was Memorial Day weekend (May).

    Who is the interviewer?

  • @kenaeda65 He deserves all the praise he can get! He's actually quite underrated. The writers you mention are all really good too, but Wolfe transcends them in several ways. His language is undeniably greater, but it's his way of weaving the archetypes of fantasy literature with a truly satirical, self-critical manner that makes the (especially in Book of the New Sun) work like no other.

  • @Zematus737 and Wolfe understood it.

  • “knight

    n. Once a warrior gentle of birth, Then a person of civic worth, Now a fellow to move our mirth. Warrior, person, and fellow -- no more: We must knight our dogs to get any lower. Brave Knights Kennelers then shall be, Noble Knights of the Golden Flea, Knights of the Order of St. Steboy, Knights of St. Gorge and Sir Knights Jawy. God speed the day when this knighting fad Shall go to the dogs and the dogs go mad.”

    by Ambrose Bierce

  • Currently doing an essay on this comparing Morcaine to Tiamat from the Enuma Elish, these are two of my favorite books
