  • the reason the jump hook was so effective is bcuz you had to foul to stop him from shooting

  • @sptrfn. Well, Frank McGuire in the 1957 NCAA final between Kansas and North Carolina used a 2-3 zone against Wilt. Dean Smith became an assistant to Frank McGuire some three years later.

  • @Ariamaluum: You are right, but I don't think teams played much zone in those days.

That was the same mistake Memphis St. made against Walton five years later. They should have zoned the Bruins instead of playing Walton straight up.

  • UNC center What a Stiff,

  • Dean could have played 3 defenders on Lew Alcindor and UNC would still have lost.

The 1968 UCLA was one of the top 2 college basketball teams ever, the other being the 1973 UCLA team.

  • Big mistake by Dean in playing man on Kareem. Should have gone zone.
