I love him! His voice, his mannerisms and just . . . wow! Just adore him and he just got better! I wish he was doing more on American TV. Sigh?

I remember Robert on Merv Griffin, talking about the Vietnam war. When asked about his (ooh..I like the music at :26 secs) he was asked whether the thousands of lives lost would be in vain if we pulled out, and his answer was..."I dont want another "thousands of lives lost."

I never forgot that. (I paraphrased his comments) I think he may have said I don't want another 50,000 lives lost.

I'm watching the whole four years of Uncle on DVD, Every once in a while, there's a great verbal gag on these shows that's so funny, you have to stop the DVD. Also, the guest stars on the show were marvelous...people we have forgotten. You'll notice the third year the budget seems to have been doubled...new sets, very stylish, new locations, etc. The show has many charms. One thing you notice is how often these guys, (David and Robert) are thrown into water. Alot.

Robert Vaughn as Napoleon Solo, along with David McCallum as Illya Kuryakin were my heroes when I was a kid. Both actors are now in their late 70's and it is amazing that they are still both active than ever.

I was in the Army Reserves with Robert Vaughn in the late 1950s. We were in the 63rd Infantry Division, Headquarters and Headquarters Company. He was a clerk if I remember correctly. I was an MP. he and I moved some ammunition cases once at our Western Avenue weekly meeting place. He was always pleasant. When I first met him he was nominated for an Academy Award.

Caught Robert Vaughn yesterday at the Cheltenham Literary Festival. A perfect gentlemen in all respects. A Hollywood legend in his own right but not an ounce of that in his stories and inter-action with the audience. If you get a chance to see and hear him then really make the effort to go. One of my all time tv & screen heroes.
