That's the point though, he's trying to make a statement around the terrbile circumstances surrounding her death, not so much about her life itself. It'd be a bit silly creating a happy chirpy song to make a statement against someone's murder.
Either way, different strokes for different folks.

It's what artists do isn't it... It's Elton's way of expressing himself even though it's depressing it's still a sympathetic tribute to her life.
Death is a depressing thing, there's no point in glorifying it.

quite an essay you articulated there. i understand that there are others who have their own "thoughts and lives". This song was fabricated to honor marilyn monroe after her death. My point is why remember her with a terribly slow paced song like this?
