Unions, community Activists and everyday people got together to march from all over Pittsburgh to the EQT building to protest the PA budget cuts. The 2011-2012 bugdet proposal cuts $866 million out of the budget. In these cuts The State-related universities, the Department of Community and economic Development and Public schools are taking the biggest cuts.
While announcing the Pa Budget Tom Corbett says "To the people of Pennsylvania, the taxpayers who sent us here, I want to say something you haven't heard often enough from this building... We get the picture. it's your money."
With that said it is hard to belive that he gets the picture if people all over the state are coming together to protest these budget cuts and ask if not demand that he (Mr. Corbett) find the money else where such as from the Marcellus shell drilling through out the state to lighten up the load on the general public and the everyday adverage tax payers. By getting the picture means cutting 1500 state jobs not including the jobs of those who will have to be let go in all ereas of education from k-12, the research jobs, and jobs in 5013c's across the state. With the enviromental protection founding would decrease by some $7 million while more the ever before more energy companies are putting more chemicals into the ground as they drill for natural gas. As the permit fees and fines on gas drillers are not set to rise as Corbett's office is reviewing how to reduce the current application backlog. it might be a good thing Corbett increased welfare funding by $607.7 million and health funding by $61 million and hired another 230 state troopers some would say to combat the health dangers of just the drilling for Marcellus and and underlying Utica Shale and the public outcry as more get sick.
"he talked about how we all have to make sacrifices," State Sen. Daylin Leach (D., Montgomery) said of Corbett, "but then he excluded whole sections of the population. What sacrifice does an energy executive have to make? What sacrifise does someone making $1million a year have to make? Too many of the sacrfices are weighted toward people on the lowest end of the economic scale or the middle class." "The big winnners are corporations with out-of-state addresses." Eric Epstein the founder of the activst group Rockthecapital.com says as he contended the beneficiaries of the budget would be Corbett's top campaign contributors - in particular, oil and natural gas interests.
Education advocates say, basic education funding would be reduced by more than $1 billion , it would wipe out more than $550 in basic funding as well as an additional $260 million in grants to school districts for prekindergarten, fullday kindergarten and class-size reduction in kidergarten through the third grade. this budget would also cut out $224 million in rembursements to school districts for money they already provided to help out charter schools in thier ereas.
