College is only worth it if you would reach the career goal you want easier by going to college. For example, to be a teacher you must have a bachelors degree in education. If you want to be a teacher than college is the only way to reach your goal. If you want to be a makeup artist, all you need is a makeup kit and clients, so college isn't worth it to be a makeup artist.

You didn't take into account that you graduated BEFORE the economy crashed and unemployment wasn't skyrocket high. I have plenty of friends who graduated from collage (nice ones) and STILL do not have a job in the field that they went to school for and have the "uneducated" jobs. My sister who is a nurse from a very prestigious school and had very good grades didn't get a job for 2 years. (hospitals need them, but can't pay them) Love you John, but I feel this side was not talked about.

i see everyone talking about how even if you go to collage you may still not get a job, but there's another argument to this. some people are not cut out for collage going to collage requires a lot of self disciplined even to just go to class and some people just don't have the kind of personalities that can handle something like that

Very true. Some states only require a bachelors in the content area where in states like New York not only require a bachelors but also a masters degree, at least one being in education to be permanently certified to teach.

Very relatable, espcially about the existencial thoughts. I'm a 1st year university student and it's all weird. I often wonder what I do it for, what it'll get me in life. Yeah, a degree in History. I want that and it is good to have... but then what? With this economy? *Incoming life crisis*

I love this video! I found it to be a source of hope and it made me feel less like a freak for having those very existential thoughts. I just graduated with a double bachelor's in religion and philosophy and am attending seminary in the fall for another four years. I guess you could say that I've bought into the idea that college is worth it. :)

Man are you right about the economy and unemployment. But assuming your sister wanted to be a nurse for any reason, be that economic or other, college gave her the oportunity to be one. It's not a guarantee that she would have been one immediately or ever, but it's the only way she could have been. The alternative was her never being a nurse.
