Mosque Hassan II in Casablanca in Morocco is a modern, large mosque built by King Hassan II, the former king of Morocco. She was designed by French architect Michel Pinseau and built by Bouygues, [1]. It is the second largest mosque in the world after the Al-Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. The mosque is situated on the coast overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. A gigantic glass floor, which can accommodate 25,000 visitors, overlooking the water. Besides the 25,000 people who can find a place inside there is room for 85,000 people praying outside. The minaret is the tallest minaret with a height of 210 meters.
BeschrijvingDe mosque was built on land that is beyond the sea and half of the surface overhangs the water of the sea. This was inspired by a verse from the Koran that speaks of the throne of God, built over the water. Part of the floor of the building is glass, so the praying faithful kneel directly over the water. At night there is light at the top of the minaret toward Mecca floodlights that shine on the other side of the minaret, the spots appear toward the Statue of Liberty in New York.
Besides these, especially religious-inspired King Hassan II of client requirements are more modern features: The building is designed to withstand earthquakes, the doors are electrically controlled and the complex has a retractable roof.
The mosque has distinct Moorish architecture and corresponds to the Alhambra and the Mezquita in Spain.
The Hassan II mosque, together with the historic Tin Malmoskee, the only mosque in Morocco-fee-opened to non-Muslims.
