This is the daily noon test of the 1930's-era Darley "helmet" siren in Etna, Siskiyou County, California (starts at 0:33). It is believed to contain a Federal Signal Model 2, but is higher pitched due to either having six ports or operating on a higher voltage.

  • why did it get quiet then louder during the winddown??

  • @rhett443 The camera lowers the mic input when the ambient noise level gets too high. At a certain point when the siren becomes quieter, the mic reverts to normal. I don't like that feature.
