Gym battles for the 5th, 6th and 7th badges.
The most important thing to do after beating Morty and being able to use Surf outside of battle is to go to the Lake of Rage and catch a Red Gyarados. It is lv. 30, making it the highest levelled Pokemon at this point out of non-legendaries, and has great base states and type advantages against many of the gym leaders at this point. Even when it doesn't pierce a weakness with an attack, Thrash coming from its incredible physical attack stat tears things to pieces. Trainer battles (especially those annoying Rocket ones) are a breeze with Red Gyarados; however, with gyms, it needs a bit of support because it's 4x weak to electric and Thrash eventually causes it to confuse itself after 2-3 uses, so it shouldn't stay there on its own.
Other Pokemon are also quite important at this point, most of them also available through surfing. You can catch higher-levelled Onixes and Geodudes now, lv. 24 Slowpokes and lv. 22 Poliwhirls who can be evolved by trade holding a King's Rock, and lots of other good stuff. I got a Lapras too, but it wasn't awfully good and I ended up never using it.
Chuck has Primeape and Poliwrath. Slowking can easily take care of Primeape and resists Poliwrath's Surf and Dynamicpunch; however, Hypnosis and Dynamicpunch's confusion put his slow self at a disadvantage. After just 1 Leer, Gyarados 2HKOs Poliwrath.
This wasn't as quick as planned, because I had a Mint Berry equipped (for Hypnosis), but Poliwrath spammed Dynamicpunch instead, connecting two in a row and confusing me each time. It was a matter of time until that thing would die anyway.
Next was Jasmine. Gyarados doesn't want to meet those Magnemites at all, so Geodude with a Bitter Berry should do the job. Magnitude is unreliable but it's good for what it is: a STAB ground-type attack that you need no TM for.
Steelix is a little harder. There isn't a single good fire-type that could destroy him after he uses Sunny Day, not even Firepunching Magmar can hurt him well (due to the enormous level difference). Gyarados can be taught Fire Blast via TM but it's terribly expensive / time consuming, depending on whether we cash out for the coins or gamble for hours to achieve the same effect. I didn't bother.
Anyway, one Surf isn't enough to kill Steelix, and he is too likely to use Sunny Day on the same turn, getting restored to full health with a Hyper Potion on the next one. Then it's a fight between uneffective Surfs and boss's super-effective Rock Throws - not nice.
I gave Gyarados a King's Rock for a chance to flinch Steelix and prevent Sunny Day but guess what... yeah, it hit critical, lucky me.
Pryce was next, and the last gym leader where the level difference wasn't too apparent yet.
Seal can be taken out with a single Thrash after one Leer.
Dewgong is bulkier, but is water/ice, so he has a rock weakness. Believe it or not, Sudowoodo needs 3 Rock Throws to kill him. I put him to sleep, screech, then pray for a successful Rock Throw (it's not very accurate). It's worth noting that he has no STAB moves besides the ice attacks.
Piloswine is taken out with a combo of Dragon Rage and Surf coming from Gyarados with a Mysticwater equipped (ups water-type moves by 20%). Doing it in different order leads to Pryce using a potion.
None of them were particularly hard so I just put all those recordings into one video. Clair was a more respectable opponent on the other hand, as one would expect from the final gym leader in the region.

Man, if this had commentary, it would be 100x more amazing. D: I've been watching your videos for maybe 2 years now and I still find these challenges quite interesting. Started watching way back with the FFTA challenges. xD Anyways, keep up the great videos, I'm glad you're still doing them!

@Graalgor
I did have a mic somewhere... I doubt I'd feel comfortable while speaking over my videos though.
