@pegcage Clean, honest folks, but no prudes. They knew what "Roll in my sweet baby's arms" was about.
But I think that the best view into Maybelle's character was her saving Johnny Cash's life. She made sure he ate, at a time when he needed reminding.
It seems that the performers from that time (Woody, Carters, Weavers) were all decent people at heart. Caring and helping others when they needed. None of them wanting to be "stars", they just wanted to be musicians.

They may have drank white lightning, however, I followed them closely, and I never heard one tad of scandal about any of these musicians. I saw them in person several times. They always put on a clean show, with no dirty humor, and no sign of any of them being tipsy.

It doesn't matter how old you are, this music is welcoming. You don't have to be young and sexy..you can be an old fart like me. I love it!
