此曲是根據清嘉慶年間《華氏琵琶譜》之《月兒高》編配的民族管弦樂，該曲亦稱《霓裳羽衣曲》。唐代《霓裳曲》始於開元，盛於天寶，李隆基、楊玉環不僅為天朝的帝王妃子，也­是藝術上的合作夥伴：玄宗乃超群的鼓師，貴妃亦天生的舞者。他們共同創造的《霓裳羽衣曲》是唐代文化鼎盛的象徵。安史之亂，禁軍要求處死楊貴妃，唐明皇愛莫能救。此後，他­日日夜夜陷於對貴妃的無盡思情...... 舞蹈由主舞者根據《長恨歌》詩意編創。

Legend has it that the Tang Emperor composed this song after overhearing it while visiting the Moon Palace in his dream. This performance tries to interpret it from the perspective of the Song of Eternal Sorrow, the love and death story of the emperor and his soul mate, the beloved Lady Yang--
Over the throne flew fire-flies while the Emperor brooded in the twilight.
He still could not fall asleep even though the lonely lamp near by had run out of oil.
Bells tolled and drums rolled before the dragging night hours.
And the River of Stars grew sharp in the sky, just before dawn.
