James Kalm slides through the night to the Chelsea opening of Spring in Park Lane recent paintings by cult favorite Thomas Trosch. With an exhibition resume stretching back years, Trosch is still an acquired taste. Combining the unlikely elements of fashionable high society damsels, narratives that might be borrowed from British soap operas, and a sumptuous technique, the artist produces works redolent of history and oil paint. With an underground reputation among painters, Troschs works nevertheless deserves a wider consideration.

  • Dear fans of the James Kalm Report. Ive just linked an extensive interview with Salt Lakes own conceptual art gad-fly, and internet maven, Qi Peng. This is a lengthy piece but hits on questions Im constantly asked. Check it out at the lorenmunk site

    Thanks

    James Kalm

  • great great show...esp. love the cupcake piece which almost reminds me of ralph humphrey who shares his weirdo formal mastery persistence. i also recall a split second in an old kalm report from some group show containing the work of geoff davis and the passing promise that there would be possibly a studio with him...and also ron gorchov...just keeping track of things

  • I'm still planning on doing the Davis piece, when I get some time (he's my next door neighbor). Ron is a bit shy, and busy, but I'm keeping it in mind,

    thanks

    JK
