After hitting the power button, you can hear the electronics that are powered up -- then a few seconds later the computer starts the ICE (Internet Combustion Engine) using the motors. Coolant temp about 70F.

  • The A/C compressor is electrically driven, so it does make that sound as it runs. It's basically a pump.... There is a setting in the ECU to reduce the speed (and noise) but it will also reduce cooling performance. The dealer can set it for you.

People online are talking about the shaking/banging when cold. Try neutral as soon as you hear/feel it. Someone else says (while in park) push down on the gas pedal and it smooth it out for him.

  • @DAFTEK it is normal for toyotas and hondas to have that engine knock. you do not want a toyota or honda without it. that being said the prius also uses a different type of ice engine. may it be old technology in a new car its still very reliable and gets the job done. its a atkinson engine so they are always a little loud. but it will last longer than any other car on the market. its not uncommon for them to last over 500k miles

  • @authmaax in the video is at 1200rpm

  • What a turd. wtf sounds like a saw.

  • no it misses the point of the question, but thanks anyway.

have you ever heard of the "myth"... "must let the engine idle for 10 seconds after a cranking..."

this engine goes from dead stop .. meaning... all oil resting in the sump to full acceleration well abo 2500 rpm in less than one second...

question is how come by design the old good practice rule does not apply to this engine.

in normal combustion engines a good oil relocation + priming gives extensive good results in terms of wear

  • @authmaax the oil system is only needed for the engine when its running, the reason for the oil is to keep the engine lube while running, with out it, the engine parts will overheat and siezed in no time, the electic motor doesnt need oil!!!!! hope this helps.

  • who is the oil pump n thie engine.. is it electric too?

is the lubrication system always primed?

a cold 1.8 engine starts and gets imediatly solicited in rpms above 3000 or 4000,, goes against all good practices

  • Junk toyota.

  • When did it start up? All i heard was an electric fan

  • watch?v=i4hHp2jfIog

  • @DAFTEK Dude don't repeat your mistake. You bought first year of a very complicated car. Just read about ford hybrid battery issues. Do not buy first year of a super complicated car. Do you think ford mechanics are going to know how to fix ur your ev. How many years of experience do they have troubleshooting these cars? You are paying the price for being on cutting edge. I would suggest you buy extended warranty on your prius and keep bitching. Toyota has the best chance because of volume.
