Georgia would not have fired of salvo after salvo of missiles against South Ossetia without a green light to go, from further up the food chain, ie - the US.
Georgia is a fledgling EU member and wannabe NATO member.
Saakashvili would not have committed to such action without 'permission' from higher up.
The US funded Saakashvili's political campaign because they wanted him in power.
The US were then able to test Russia's response to the affair - which is what they wanted of course.

WND's were in Iraq and were used by Sadam against the Coaliton Forces in 1991 and against the Kurds: this WMD was 'poison gas'. Sadam had hundreds of tons of uranium yellow-cake, a first step in nuclear arms production, full-fledged nukes or 'dirty bombs'.
