Today, illegal abortions are the leading cause of death among young women in Latin America. Whether they are performed in major cities or in the isolated countryside, these 'back room' abortions are leaving thousands of young women dead each year. Guatemala has the highest fertility rate among women and yet it remains the poorest country in the region where women can ill afford large families. Unwanted pregnancies, couple with the forces of tradition and politics, leave few options for these families. Through the work of an activist and the medical team she leads, this film explores the questions of family planning, which many see as the right to life.

  • Poor country = Poor education

    Poor education = No condom use

    No condom use = Pregnancy

    Pregnancy = More poverty

    More poverty = Poor country

    ... get where I am going at?

    This is why if the republican party wants to eliminate abortions, they first need to improve education, but instead of doing that they cut funding. The government is all just one big clusterfuck of incompetence.

  • @HDaviator what you wrote is a cute little bumper sticker. But it has very little to do with reality and anyone educated past the 8th grade could poke holes in its logic.

  • @HDaviator Because poor country does not always equal poor education. The U.S is one of the richest countries in the world and we have SHIT for education. You can educate a child for next to nothing, yet you imply that only rich countries have educated citizens. And quite frankly, you don't have to be educated to roll a piece of latex over your dick. Pregnacy does NOT equal a poor country either as evidenced by the fact that countries with high birthrates have the best economies. Basically,

  • @TheVikingNinja

    That is your problem. Why does wanting for people to have a better education make me a dreamy eye'd liberal? I understand what you are saying, I just think you are wrong.

  • @HDaviator Yes, good point - a vicious circle. And don't forget the CATHOLIC thing in this case, too...

  • All of you are talking about problems as a result of lack of funding. It's ridiculous system. Fuck money.

  • @HDaviator your just a retarded dreamy eye'd liberal that thinks there are infinite resources in the world or something. Supply and demand. If a million people are applying to be a doctor or something, the employer can get a really good deal. If 20 people are applying, they can't lower the wages that much. Just how it works, sorry.

  • @TheVikingNinja

    That was so ridiculous that I can't even think of a meaningful thing to reply...

  • @HDaviator nah, thats not true. If everyone in the world got a billion dollar education it wouldn't really change how many jobs there are that much. It would just drive wages down because of the increase in people applying for jobs.

  • I think we all need to "thank" the Pope as well for this!
