@Drazzirg He got the reverse angle picking from watching Shawn Lane, as far as I can tell. He learned stuff from Paul musically, not really much technique.

This must have been around the time Buckethead grabbed a few lessons from Paul Gilbert. That must be where he got the reverse angle picking from around this era.
