Doing a 0-60 video on the 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2 4 cylinder with the pedal to the metal. This is a base model with 4 doors and air pressure in tires was at 38 psi all around. The temperature outside was at 19 degrees fahrenheit. This is just for show, I'm not claiming this is fast. . I'm trying to figure out why it is so slow, it burns oil, and the check engine light is on for vapor system, But it should be in the 12-17 range. ( I'm not bashing these cars mine is just slow).

Any Ideas? I changed the plugs and wires, new air filter, seafoamed, everything is up to par, only 2 problems is vapor system, and burns oil.
Thanks for watching.

  • haha not hating, but do u actually have to floor it whenever ur in a stop light and the light turns green so it can pick up speed??

  • @torpz956 I had to floor it at stop lights, or the people behind me honk and get very angry thinking I was driving very slow just to be an asshole lol.

  • I've sensed a coming issue for the past month, but not determined exactly what it would be, My first guesses were my CVJoints, tires, brakes, or steering pump, because they seem a little tight on corners and there's a slight ticking as I'm driving in my left front tire. However, just today on my way home no more then 10min after start on the freeway it decided kick my speed down 15mph,check engine light on, then blinking. Now it does a lot of shuddering and has low power. Plugs? Pump? Ign Coil?

  • @XozaShadow If it is blinking it is most likely ignition coil or spark plugs/wires, when it blinks it has something major wrong with it. While the car is running unplug the wires one at a time from the spark plug or coil to see if it shudders more, if it does that plug/wire/cylinder is ok, if nothing happens you found the area of the problem. Let me know the outcome. Try spraying mist on the wires at night to see any shorts or hear any discharges from a cracked wire.

  • but i still like seeing cavalier videos on here is there anything wrong with yours this seems extremely slow

  • I checked everything possible, but it burns oil, and the oil pressure light comes on but I replaced the oil pump, and sensor and thats it. so I'm stumped why It's so slow. If I figure it out I will try a faster 0-60, I'm not bashing these cars at all it's just mine is a bit slow( ok real slow) lol.

  • right on if the piston rings are bad it will also burn oil and you can get a performance kit to build these engines up they actually have a lot of potential

  • Do yourself a favor find a 03-05 with an ecotec.. those ecotecs are amazing

  • I have a 2002 cavalier and it keeps smoking out the engine it dosent over heat just smoke please help

  • lol my eats oil to when its coming close to an oil change i have a misfire my electric fan doesn't work(which requires me to run a heater in the middle of summer) wtf is wrong with these cars? lol

  • @slyirish17 if it burns oil you may have worn piston rings and you are losing compression 'cause of it.... my ghetto diagnosis.

  • most likely the kick-down cable (throttle valve cable)

  • May sound kind of dumb, but is this a stick shift?

  • They like to crap out fuel injectors, mine did. Seemed like you are having the same problem with at least one of yours.

  • @slyirish17 I tested it last night and did find a crack in the wire, replaced wires this morning as well as the spark plugs. Even removed the coils to test them though we were not able to test them completely the front tests were good. Reset the Battery, started it up, ran fine for 5min or so then gradually started to putter and shake again, the trouble code shows 300 = Random Multi-Cylindar Misfires. I suspect it still could be the coils. Everything else runs smooth, its just the engine.
