When you live apart from your child or parent, there are still ways to maintain close bonds.
Here's how one dad and son maintained their relationship from a 500-mile distance, from interviews they did with Canadian Television and Italian Television, and a National Public Radio Commentary by Jim Buie, "Virtual Dad."
Also, the video includes photos with snippets from the Grammy-Award-Winning "With Arms Wide Open" by Creed.

If you know of any parents and children who do not live together, forward this video. It'll give them HOPE. Despite distance, they can still be closely connected.
What non-custodial dad or mom wants to be "just a paycheck," someone who sends money, but doesn't have a close relationship with the child? Research indicates that non-custodial parents who have relationships with their children are far more likely to contribute something financially to the kids' wellbeing, so this technology can be very helpful in encouraging child support. Money, or lack of it, should never determine whether a parent and child are able to maintain their relationship.
Tools: We use Logitech webcams and either Skype, MSN Live Messenger, or Sightspeed. We've also tried Yahoo Instant Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger for video conferencing.
At the time this video was recorded, Jim Buie lived in Takoma Park, MD and his son Matthew lived in Tryon, NC. Jim now lives in Fearrington Village, near Pittsboro and Chapel Hill, NC, and Matthew lives and works on Princess Cruise Lines, where he is an entertainment sound engineer. They continue to teleconference from the cruise ship and from Matthew's locations around the world.

Nice video showing how families can spend time together with video conferencing. It's something my grandchildren and I enjoy often.
