Mary Beth Maxwell of American Rights at Work spoke at Breakthrough's public forum, "Why Can't America Have Human Rights?" at The Riverside Church in New York City on September 14, 2006. The event, co-sponsored by 70 organizations, attracted 600 guests, including community members, students, and leaders. The speakers and performers were united in their platform— we must take a stand against abuses and create a much needed human rights movement in the United States.

  • When I see that it is at Riverside Church, I know it's going to be righteous.

  • Look to the disco era as to why Americans and Australians cannot enjoy human rights!

  • She's a terrific speech giver... WOW.

  • @ 2min 30sec, I totally clapped. :)

  • because the good stories don't make the bad ones better. workers being treated well doesn't make workers being treated poorly elsewhere any less criminal.

  • US Secretary of Labor Mary Beth Maxwell has a good ring to it!!!!

  • OMG, she is fierce! I would love for her to be the next Secretary of Labor.

  • Good stories? ABOUT WHAT? Losing your rights at work?

That is like asking for a good story about Guantanamo.

It is all the same systemaic attack to lower our standards, our expectations, our sense of power, etcetc.

Removing any rights in this day and age is not good. Its not intelligent and it is not for our benefit.

Since 2001 Australians have lost more rights than the USA and the UK.
