Footage taken during a rhino dehorning operation in the Save Valley Conservancy in May 2007.
The scouts have tracked and found a rhino and called the spotter 'plane. The spotter has directed the chopper in, and from it the vet has darted the rhino.
As the chopper lands, the ground crew's vehicle makes its way to the immobilised rhino, bringing extra equipment and personnel.
Expect shaky camerawork and very choppy editing by me, and blocky Mpeg-4 conversion by YouTube.

  • is this helping the rhino ?

  • Hopefully. Removing the horns reduce the chances of the rhino being poached.

  • @Trigormike no it isnt rhino dehorning is very cruel visit the humane society of the US website rhinos die a few days after this happens this practically IS poaching ppl use the horns for things we can make out of other materials and also how does the rhino protect itself w/o its horns?

  • @CocoPug13 I looked on that site and couldn't find anything about rhinos dying after being dehorned by a conservation team. However, I don't doubt it may happen occassionally, if they come across another (horned) rhino. Unfortunately, dehorning doesn't always deter the pochers either.
