The Great Wall of China is one of the worlds most amazing places. The Wall runs north of Beijing and there are several places you could go to walk it for a few hours. But to get a genuine experience you need to go a bit further than the common tourist. The stretch between Jinshanling and Simatai is probably the most beautiful part of the Great Wall with lots of nice panoramas of mountains and greenery surrounding it. This part has not been fixed up in the way that the more touristy parts has.

We went here on a perfect beautiful and hot day with clear weather and blue skies.
Our trek started at Jinshanling where our driver dropped us off. Before he left he set us up with a local woman and man from a close by village. They walked the whole trek with us and made sure we were careful and didn't slip on loose bricks. When we got closer to our end destination at Simatai they wanted to sell some t-shirts and postcards as a kind of fee for their service.

The trek took us a total of five hours. At the end we were quite tired, sweaty and our feet were sore, but what an experience! We got some amazing views and have now walked through some of oldest part of the great wall of china.

The Great Wall of China has often been mistaken for one of the Seven Wonders of the World, but its truly one of the present wonders of the world. Its also said to be the only thing built by man that is visible from space, which is false.

We highly recommend a visit!
