  • @intldawn I agree! Even her tumbles seem to rotate slow! How did she do it?

  • She was terrific. I love how she always appears to be moving in slow motion, even through the faster choreography. She is so deliberate and polished in all her movements. Every move was finished. Beautiful gymnast.

  • @tmc8802 Yes-Yurchenko is the 1983 World AA Champion. I believe she also debuted her famous vault at those championships or at Europeans the same year.

  • @LMA629 The requirements were different back then. You could even get away with single and double twisting back flips, and one double back and still score out of a 10.00.

  • @MrJST94 Not to mention that TRUE dancing/leaps etc. on floor requires strength and endurance between the tumbling passes! :)

  • if i just compare this floor exercise with one of today I think that this is harder....not with tumbling but you have to realize that th flor is almost a trampoline nowdays....in 1983 the first springs came. such a big diffrence.

  • @LMA629- sorry, I wasnt implying you were saying they sucked but im sure your aware theres plenty of very 'naive' and unknowledgable ppl on here who DO imply that without actually appreciating the reasons why gymnastics years ago wasnt as difficult as today! lets be fair, Natalia prob had more artistic impression in her little finger than most of todays gymnasts including Nastia to a certain degree!

  • @garyj79 Yes, I realize that. I know that's why they didn't have the difficulty of today's gymnasts. I wasn't trying to imply that they sucked or weren't as good as gymnasts today. They did the best with what they had.

  • @LMA629 - do you see a difference though in equipment today from 1983??? no wonder they didnt quite have the difficulty then - the gymnasts are aided sooooo much today! in comparison.

  • @LMA629

well this was only 1983 and as the first double backs were done in 76 and first full ins (in competition, that is) in 78, then im assuming multiple somersaults weren't required.

if Natalia won worlds this year with this floor routine, and i doubt she would have won had she had a major composition deduction, im pretty sure twisting elements weren't required back then.
