PlusGas at $4 Brings Promises, PanderingGas at $4 Brings Promises, PanderingThe Associated PressAs Americans cope with $4 gas prices, presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain are offering more promises and new incentives as they try to win over voters. (June 23)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] Gas prices that top four dollars a gallon are bringing problems for voters....SOT"i've parked my car for almost a year now"And promises from presidential candidates. The latest comes from Republican John McCain, who is hoping to help solve the energy crisis with some cold, hard cash.SOTJohn McCain"I propose we inspire the ingenuity and resolve of the american people by offering a 300 million dollar price for the development of a battery package that will leapfrog commercially available cars"McCain is also proposing a summer break from the federal gas tax, an idea he floated during the primaries.Last week, he reversed course on off-shore drilling, saying he would be open to lifting the ban.SOT(McCain talking about lifting drilling ban)Obama has criticized McCain for offering proposals that he says would do little to solve the energy crisis.SOTBarack Obama"when John McCain says well we're going to drill our way out of the problem or we're going to suspend the gax tax, then I say, that's a gimmick"For his part, Obama wants to go after oil-market speculators who drive up prices. He's also calling for a windfall profits tax on oil.SOTBarack Obama " I have proposed taking record multi billion profits from the oil companies to pay for for a $1,000 middle class tax cut...to offset the rising costs of fuel." A new USA Today-Gallup Poll suggests that 47 percent of voters think Obama would do a better job on energy issues compared to 28 percent for McCain. ___ ___, The Associated Press.

  • Commercial transporters should shut down for a few days. Everything is impacted by oil prices. Plastic materials, elastimore, roads, buidling materials, machinery that makes the stuff. every type of transportation (land ,air, and sea) that we use . If we can do more of this "transporter shutdown" than our corporates and politicians will act quickly to do something because we are now hitting their back pockets. All I hear is buzz words.

  • @mare652 lol i dont think you could have put it any better than that

  • there is 1 action we can take to make gas prices go down overnight. we need to exempt gas stations from anti-trust laws. The biggest gas station chains in america lose a shit ton of money every year from their gas sales, and make all of their money from the stuff inside on the shelves. they could sell gas for 1 doller, and balance that loss with purchases inside. we would get cheaper gas, cheaper gas means cheaper everyday shit.....exclude gas stations from anti-trust laws thats the winner

  • Fuck Obama and fuck big oil. They BOTH suck.

  • Obama wants high gas prices, he wants our standard of living to match Cuba, Greece, etc. Obama is Anti-American, a LIAR, Fraud, and Incompentent! 2012 can't come soon enough! He should be IMPEACHED if this destruction of our Country continues!

  • I see obama and the lib media blaming big oil on the gas prices. Mmmm wonder how much of those profits go to obama and his government? Also saw today that the EPA appeals panel ( 3 Liberal Democrats) turned down Shell's request to drill in Alaska. The nearest town is 70 MILES AWAY!! Let me get this straight, obama says taxing the rich can fix the deficit but opening up more oil wells WON"T help the price of gas? Liberal logic, does anyone REALLY understand it? NO, its impossible.

  • I just wanted to tell everyone about the MayDay Moratorium on gasoline purchases on May 1, 2011. This is a day on which show the oil companies that we can all band together when there are issues we can all agree on. I know that there is small chance of it lowering prices, but it is a tangible way we can express our dissatisfaction with the current gasoline prices. Forward this to everybody and let’s see what happens. May 1, 2011: Don’t buy gas on May 1, 2011.

  • Good thing Chairman Mao Bama made that two billion dollar deal with Brazil. Who could have expected the middle east to catch fire right after he shut down oil drilling in America? At least he and george Soros has the forsight to invest in petrobras early.
