Otterbein's President Kathy A. Krendl had the unique opportunity to participate in a women's flight with the Ohio Air National Guard's 121st Air Refueling Wing at Rickenbacker Airport on April 14, 2011.
Prior to the flight, President Krendl, along with nearly 30 other women in leadership throughout the Columbus-area community, including two Otterbein alumnae, Kathy Dietz Lowery '68 and Deborah Hillis Johnson '84, learned about the Ohio National Guard's role in protecting the citizens of the state, the nation, and the world. They also heard stories from women who are serving in the Ohio National Guard.
During the flight on the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker, an aerial refueling military aircraft, President Krendl had the opportunity to see the view from the cockpit, and to lie down beside the boom operator in the rear of the aircraft and watch the boom connect to another aircraft in flight.
Have you always wondered how airplanes are refueled in flight? Watch this and you will know!
Awesome stuff dude!
