Old and New Friends at Mill Mountain Zoo!

Red Wolves (in video): Visit our two young wolves as they enjoy their new habitat. As part of the Species Survival Plan for Red Wolves in North America, these two brothers will stay at the Mill Mountain zoo until they mature and are paired with a mate for breeding.

Black Hornbills: Perhaps the only breeding pair of this species in North American Zoos, we are very excited to be able to include them in our bird collection.

Baby Porcupines: The stork made an early visit to us with the birth of two Indian Crested porcupines. The babies, born March 5, will make their public debut on Saturday, April 12 (weather permitting). Baby porcupines called porcupets are born with soft quills that harden upon exposure to the air.

Interactive Aviary (in video): Work has begun on converting the old central exhibit into an interactive aviary. Featuring birds from around the world, this walk-through environment will allow the public to get up close and personal with its occupants and have the opportunity to hand feed some of the birds.

Asian Black Vultures: Work is occurring on a new exhibit to display these large powerful raptors from Southeast Asia. Both our birds are only ten months old at this time, but when mature, will play a vital role in preserving the species in the wilds of Mongolia.

New Quarantine and Animal Holding Facility: Although this facility is off exhibit, it plays a key role in the future of Mill Mountain Zoo, allowing us to better care for our ever expanding collection of animals.

Mill Mountain Zoo is an AZA accredited, non-profit 501©3 zoo that promotes an appreciation and understanding of animal and habitat conservation through the use of quality exhibits and educational programs. Mill Mountain Zoo cares for some of the rarest species on earth including monkeys, birds of prey, snow leopards, porcupines and more. The zoo is involved with a number of conservation efforts both locally and internationally.
