  • song at the end, please anyone?

  • @AndromedaAiken Bulimia involves purging, even when they don't binge. The whole subtype thing is stupid, and it's only for insurances to cover for their care. Anorexics don't think about throwing up even when forced to eat. If they do they are anorexic and bulimic. If they binge and purge as you say, and starve, how is that not bulimia? Bulimics don't binge and purge 24/7, they also have restricting periods. I am just bothered w/ people trying to mold 2 disorders into 1- even w/ a "subtype."

  • @WinnieDaShit Ugh, the only reason why it ould be a subtype is for insurances to cover for their care. Bulimia involves vomit; anorexia is starvation. Yes, they both can starve and work out like crazy, but if someone self induces themselves to throw up they are either EDNOS or bulimic, and anorexic.

  • @myprettypeace When we had our lecture on EDs, we were taught there was a purging subtype of Anorexia in the DSM-IV-TR as well. Anorexics typically do restrict their eating but some of them have a subtype that makes them "see-saw" - they binge-eat then purge. It is true that bulimics will purge but the point previously I was making was the difference between the 2 disorders - their weight.

  • @myprettypeace Some anorexics purge and some don't. Have a look at the DSM: there's a "purging type" and a "non-purging" type. What they have in common is they are both starving themselves.

And, working out excessively can be part of a pattern of overeating and compensating for it, which is the definition of bulimia. You don't have to vomit to be bulimic. Look it up.

  • @stargonz You're right. This girl is anorexic AND bulimic, but not just anorexic. That bothers me that they try to submerge both disorders into one. They are different, but an individual can suffer from both.

  • @AndromedaAiken No, someone can be anorexic AND bulimic, but an anorexic does not purge. Ask any anorexic. If an anorexic is forced to eat, they work out to burn off the calories- they don't vomit. If they did, they'd be bulimic. That's why there are different names for the different disorders.

  • @AndromedaAiken No, in order to be bulimic you have to purge. If you don't, and you fall under the anorexia criteria, with the exception of your weight not being low enough (I think it's under 75% of your ideal body weight), I think you would be diagnosed as EDNOS. But if you are diagnosed with anorexia and you also vomit, then you can also be diagnosed with bulimia. You can have 2 diagnosis, because you have 2 eating disorders.

  • @tlambbb Yes they are. To be clinically diagnosed with Anorexia, the patient needs to have a current BMI of below 17. It's part of the diagnostic criteria. Those who are not severely underweight might be classed under Bulimia.

  • @AndromedaAiken not all anorexics are underweight though ...
