New to the life of farming, a middle-aged couple make a career change from a professional life in Silicon Valley to commercially raising pasture fed animals on their newly purchased farm in Oregon. First mentoring under Joel Salatin, they now raise pasture fed cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, lambs, and sheep.

  • No doubt this is much better than the factory farming system. But I don't think this is the best option. Why they don't show the animals being killed? Why not going vegetarian instead of eating meat? Just questions from a proud vegetarian. Good luck for you all.

  • @miguelmxdecarvalho At the time that this was filmed, Mr. Jondle invited me to come back for the slaughtering of the chickens. Though I would not have minded watching myself - and I think it is important, as a meat eater, to have a grasp of the complete process, if, for nothing else, out of respect for the animal who gave their life - I didn't feel the general public was ready for such an activity. Time has passed, & I think, if done with respect to the animal, I would film it now.

  • Pasture raised, grass fed and humanly treated animals should be the only way america farms. It may cost a little more to buy, but americans health and animal welfare will make up for it 3 fold! My eyes have been opened! I have taken a vow to myself to never buy feed lot, confined animals. Keep up the GREAT work!!! You are wonderful farmers and WONDERFUL people! Much Love to you!

  • @cookingupastory "Animal who GAVE their life"??? If I slit your throat and you bled to death would it make sense to say that you GAVE your life or would it make more sense to say I had KILLED you? It doesn't make sense to say someone gave something if they didn't provide it intentionally and voluntarily. Why do you have to dress up killing in such flowery language? If you think killing a healthy animal so they can be eaten can be done with 'respect' I hope you don't have any pets to respect.

  • What is it with vegetarians that they're always trying to convert other people into their little religion.

    It's despicable.

    Let people be.

  • I know it's been commented on already but my god...i thought this was such a cool story so I googled them and their farm only to learn those poor people were murdered by their own son, which is shown in the video...how terrible...

  • 1:50 - Is that what a sheep's fur should look like?

  • I'd take Andrew off the "Thanks to" on the credits at the end...

  • @miguelmxdecarvalho

Raising meat using this method is way more sustainable than the confinement food In fact, this is the only sustainable way to harvest grass. There is lots of plowing the earth to raise grain crops for your bread. In fact, to build soil without external inputs, you MUST use animals in your practice. Secondly, I know five ex vegetarians for every vegetarian I know. Too many long term health problems. We are hunter gatherers and should eat accordingly.

  • We were told the cows should be bred back within a few months of having their calf, to keep them in the "rhythm" of their breeding cycle. Is this true, or is it stressing the cow too much?

We have only two family heifers that will be having their first calves and want to do what is best for them.

    Your suggestions would be appreciated.

  • @8gina

Agreed...and If it were the only way we farmed, it might even be cheaper.

  • Amazing! i like to be a farmer!I.m from Romania, who wants to be asociated with me :P!

  • @wigwamman1 Actually our teeth most closely resemble that of cows. Flat, dull teeth for grinding, and our 'canine's' that you mentioned... are hardly built for ripping into raw flesh. Many herbavores have canine's, but they're dull, like ours.
