Ehud Barak takes office as Israel's defense minister

Labor Party Chairman Ehud Barak took over as defense minister on June 19th, in a handover ceremony at the Defense Ministry compound in Tel Aviv.At the end of the ceremony, former defense minister Amir Peretz left the compound and Barak, accompanied by Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. General Gabi Ashkenazi and senior defense officials, headed to his office to start work.
