Protein Skimmer - DIY plastic bottle skimmer!!!

Small skimmer made from plastic soda (Coke) bottles and a wooden air 'stone'. This skimmer is fitted with a plastic mesh on top of the collection cup, secured with a rubber band. This is to trap the foam for later disposal. The design is so simple that anyone can put it together, it took me 15 min to make this one. The good thing about this is that the materials are easy to find, cheap and there is no need for special tools or high skilled craftsmanship, its easy to attach and if the bottles get too dirty or old, you can always change them for new ones and recycle the old ones!

Really smart. Thanks for the upload. I'm soon gonna start up my very first aquarium (salt) which will only house a mantis shrimp. Can this build support a 40-53 gallon aquarium ?

is that salt water? If it;s working in fresh water then it is very good to be able to do that.

@poojkhgf its salt water...however, if you have a fresh water tank the skimmer will work under the same principle...small bubbles act in a physical-chemical way to capture polar molecules into a foam interface off their soluble state off the water...

I cant believe how good it is working. Good job. This would be perfect for a small tank. although I think it is pronounce a skimmer not a skeemer :)
