Welcome to another edition of Big Cat Rescue's species spotlight. We now take a look at one of our smallest residents as well as a very elusive feline that not a lot of people have ever seen in the wild or in captivity. The sand cat is one of our favorites and hopefully will be one of yours as well. And this goes without saying but even though they are small they would not make a good pet. Hopefully this video will inspire you to support feline conservation efforts around the world.

@BigCatRescue I've actually heard it said that a cat closes / blinks its eyes very slowly while looking at you as a way for it to show trust. Of course, I heard this for domestic cats. :P

YAY!!!! random fact for the guy presenting this: The sand cat is called felis margarita because of this french(?) explorer guy who was in northern Africa (guess what he was doing lol) and found the sand cat. Now, because he was a bit stuck up he decided to name the cat after himself and his name was something margarita.

Why do cats close their eyes like that? I have always interpreted it as "I like you, you are my buddy" or "I trust you". But what does it really mean?

@MowgliX I'm not sure what you're talking about? Cats closing their eyes isn't a way they show signs of affection or aggression.
