Bask in the glory of an insulting marketing campaign!
This video is an actual attempt by Sony to use viral marketing in order to get more people to buy the PSP. When the ad first came out on Youtube, there was no indication that the video was actually an ad. Presumably, Sony wanted us to think that "Cousin Pete" was actually some hip hop artist rapping about the PSP, in an attempt to appeal to all of the 'gangsta' kids, who are clearly their target audience. An admission that this was an ad can be found at http://www.alliwantforxmasisapsp.com/... The original video has since been deleted from the site and youtube, and Sony has posted a sort of pseudo-apology/admission for the trickery, which never actually admits that Sony has done anything wrong.
The video was brought to my attention via www.penny-arcade.com

I don't see why people are still pretending this happened two weeks ago. It was three years ago, and 2010 will actually give me a reason to clean off the dust from my PSP.
I have a DS, but no actual games for it. I've had it since Dec. 2004 and not a single game interested me. Just a bunch of Mario/Zelda/Metroid re-hashes. Stylus was a gimmick, dunno why I fell for it.
I have had a PSP since April 2005 and not a single game has interested me. Just a bunch of GTA/GoW/MGS re-hashes. UMD was a gimmick, dunno why I fell for it.
It makes for a halfass-but-tolerable MP3 player, I guess.
UMD *was* a gimmick. People tried to utilize them or music soundtracks and movies, but it was pretty stupid. Why use a UMD for that when you can just get an 8GB Mem. stick and put it all on that?
I play my PSP every once in a blue moon. By that, maybe once every four months or so. Ad-hoc party on PS3 makes some games a lot more fun. Meh, 2010 looks nice.
Trolling aside, the irony of the PSP is that it was intended as a launch platform for UMD but would in four years come to abandon the format altogether. The PSP has literally outlived its purpose.
What makes even less sense is how first, Sony says "UMD will be a successful format," then, "Digital distribution is cool, so we're now doing that. UMD is being phased out," then, "oh, well digital and UMD will live in harmony. We'll make a comeback with the UMD."
I don't know what type of comeback they mean. UMDs are only good for games. Even then, heavier games stream the hell out of the disc, draining battery life rapidly. \
The only possible comeback is a software comeback.
