Steven singing Donald Rumsfeld's mentally challenged response from a Defense Department Briefing on February 12, 2002. He means what he says.
He flubs the lyrics for a second then corrects himself. The song goes:
As we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don't know we don't know.

Thanks to Jimbo for the DVD. This is taken from the Lips performance at The All Good Festival, July 15th 2005 in West Virginia.
"In March 2003, Donald Rumsfeld engaged in a little bit of amateur philosophising: "There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know." What he forgot to add was the crucial fourth term: the "unknown knowns", things we don't know that we know - which is precisely the Freudian unconscious. "

I like how the new secretary of defense's kid hit and run my dad. Haha he is 10 times better than rumsfield though. Bob Gates is a good man though and I'm glad Obama kept him from Bush's cabinet.
