In Part 2, 261 again gets underway following its usual pit stop at Portage Yard, this time highballing down the main at Portage East and crossing Ontario Street.
Then we let the steam train go and railfan the CP action in the Portage area for awhile. First, Train 185 westbound comes into the yard, changes crews, and starts up again. Power is AC4400CWs CP 8645 and 9523. The train is quite a bit larger than on Wednesday, with many, many autorack cars.
Finally we see another westbound which followed 185 out of the yard by about 10 minutes, powered by another AC4400CW, CP 8508. Location is the Industrial Road crossing on the west side of Portage.
Oh. OK. Thanks for the info!

It is so they have power in the coaches and cars...if you know what I mean, and I think it might have to do with setting of the crossing gates...

Why does Amtrak always have to put an engine with a steamer. It's the same route the engine or same type of engine traveled by it self 50 years ago. They do it with BNSF 3751 too. UP's worse though. They put two SD70ACes and every now and then, and SD90 with 844. Thank goodness the City of Portland owns 4449 so UP can't put a diesel with it! Five stars though. Sorry for rambling.
