Just a quick demo of the Reliant shield powering up from Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan. An Enterprise is in the works as well.
The laser etching of the backlit panel is by Matt from the modeling forums. The sound IS coming from the model. Note that the circuit design supports any number of LEDs in any color (up to 64), and can make them brighter if desired (they are set to be slightly dimmed right now.) The whole display (once the backlight is added) only draws about 20 mA when all lights are off, about 200 mA with just the backlight, and about 320 mA with the backlight and the shields active. It can run off of anything from 4.5v (lowest we tested, anything lower would be out of spec but may still work) to 12v, including USB. The delay between LEDs is completely adjustable, as is the sound that plays with every LED (the sound could play every 5 LEDs, or every other LED, or whatever.) The pitch and duration of the sound can be changed.
Eventually there will be a real green backlight, we are just using a computer monitor to show what it will look like with the panel backlit while the power-up sequence takes place. The backlight will be switchable on and off with the same switch that powers up the shields. the switch has three states, all the way up (for everything off), centered (just backlight on) and down (backlight and shields on, shield does power-up sequence.) flipping from everything on (switch down) to backlight only (switch centered) plays the shields powering down sequence.

Another video will be posted once the backlight is added to the circuit.

  • @smashupdriver Thanks man! subscribe, I'll be posting more videos soon!

  • Is this screen out of painted plexiglass?

  • @stargatefan18 It's some type of plastic, yes. I'm not certain whether it's plexiglass or not. Might be lexan or acrylic.

  • @Kodos1 It's a prototype video sir, I didn't expect people to watch it so much! I'll use a tripod on the next video, don't worry.

  • Sounds like the big wheel from the Price is Right.

  • The low right leds are slightly lighting just when their previus led are light

  • 0:19

    Joachim: Our shields are dropping.

    Khan: Then raise them!

Joachim: [pounds fists on console] I can't!

Khan: The override. Where's the override?

  • @burr1aj Just read the description: The pitch of the sound can be adjusted! ;-)

  • It's a great job! One little bit of constructive criticism: i believe the beep was a little lower in tone. Gosh, I'm such a huge trek geek.

  • This is definitely my favorite shield indicator screen.

My second favorite is the one from The Final Frontier.

  • Pretty cool.

  • @sbcmarine81 "Impulse power restored."

  • @Cap285

"The Enterprise isn't going anywhere! She can wait!"

  • @sbcmarine81 "FIRE!, FIRE!"

    "We can't fire!"

    "WHY CAN'T YOU?!"

"They've damaged the photon control and the warp drive. We must withdraw!"

    "NO!"
