The 3,150 meter long Lefortovo tunnel, in Russia, (near POLAND) is the longest in-city tunnel in all of Europe. It is nicknamed 'The Tunnel of Death'. See for yourself why.
There is a river running over the tunnel and water leaks at some points. When the temperature dips like it does in winter in Russia, the road freezes and becomes as slippery ...well...ice. The result is the attached video, which was taken during a single day with the tunnel surveillance camera. Imagine the passengers of the dual-bus ...what a ride!

Did they never think of heating the road surface?

i would imagine that it is the leaks throughout the tunnel that tend to freeze, or more probably condensation of Carbon Monoxide in exhaust trapped inside the tunnel creating 'black ice' - which is very hard to see.

i imagine the leaks freeze and create black ice which is almost invisible

Crazy, Thank you for the explanation, I have seen the video before but I have never seen an explanation why all of a sudden cars suddenly careen wildly into the walls.
