Aikido techniques on two attackers, called futari dori or futari gake, by aikido instructor Stefan Stenudd, 6 dan Aikikai. Futaridori, also called futarigake, is defense against two attackers. Here are a few basic techniques in gotai, from a static position where the attackers grab both arms.

  • Thats not futari dori.

  • @rkononykhin Of course it is. Two attackers. But it's gotai, from a static starting point, and not jutai or kinagare, with constant movement. Maybe that's what you refer to?

  • I think that most people with [some] sense would just. . . let go.

  • @ddicecca, letting go is not that easy, if the attack is properly committed, and the defense is not equally aggressive.

  • "Two attackers"

Shouldn't that be "Two dancing partners"?

  • I wouldn't mind.

  • @akaFobb Basically what I'm saying is that all of these movements have a backup plan which is normally much worse for the attacker. Or they are variations on a strike the attacker has blocked.

  • @akaFobb Example: lets take one throw I know. When the attacker grabs both your wrists, you turn next to them and then is they hold on you can throw them. If the attacker lets go, you step back and use a backhanded strike to break the jaw. In this situation if either had let go then he would have benn in the perfect position to perform an utemi strike. Very, very nasty punch to the throat/ jugular. By holding on they can follow the attack minimizing damage.

  • @SuperThatGame Wouldn't you be in a worse position if you held on? I mean I'd rather still be on my feet and take my chance with a strike than be on my back and know for sure what's coming...

  • I think those who have not used aikido themselves in real life scenarios should have no say in this matter. Ive used it and i love it. I learned karate after aikido in hopes of seeing some action. All i realized was defense wins every-time if the defender is calm and learned. In street fights in my experience i never attack first. We martial artists tend to learn to be respectable and not jump other people. The other arts are good on occasions. However aikido is the first line of defense = win

  • @Maxflie Indeed i have beaten other fighters with only my aikido easily. Calmness and self belief are the best tools a fighter can have. But fighting against different styles is the best teacher in my experience. Ive learned many styles but I personally claim bias to my love for aikido it rocks.

  • @BCCmma64bang As i stated before this point is humorous. I use a mix of my own high grade in black belt in aikido bjj and karate. I tell you aikido is by far my favorite. Ive downed Mexican thugs in AZ and racist hicks claiming to pack heat. Only to have them on their ass with me asking "are you ok sir ?" Karate is good for single foes who are not easily moved. bjj is ground game. But aikido has multiple attackers defense in there its amazing. Don't knock till you try it.

  • @BCCmma64bang ha yea and from living in a harsh getto i Brazil all the way to harsh getto in America. None martial art learned fighters are pathetic. So yea training partners are less agrresive. But at least not easily pushed into rage into which my swift moves and calm mind end me and in saying "are you ok ?" more times than i could count. This is my knowledge based on Mexican knife wielding thugs and racist assholes in AZ ive downed. I've never lost a "street fight" per say.

  • @rkononykhin its tandori chicken curry

  • For those people who say "just let go" thats a really stupid move. You do, and 9 times out of 10 you put them in a better position to strike. I tried in my aikido class. Learned a valuable lesson.

  • this guy is like superman
