As part of the U.S. Department of Energy's GridWise® Program, the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and IBM designed the Olympic Peninsula demonstration project to help consumers participate in the operation of the power grid in a way that benefited them and the power grid.   • it's all good: Gridwise, smart meters will enable consumers get cheap electricity rates and reduce the load on the system. But you can tell how inefficiency is so embedded in our production-consumption system:
