Kirby's Adventure is one of the best NES games of all time, so I thought I try and speed run it! My plan is to speed run the entire game 100%. The entire speed run should take about 50 minutes (Single-segment and without tool assist). This is just a clip of level 1: Vegetable Valley (1 of 7 levels on Kirby's Adventure). I'll try to upload the other levels as soon as I can.

What makes Kirby's Adventure a challenging game to speed run is the unpredictability of the enemies' movements. For example: the very first Waddle Doo I encounter could potentially walk back and forth, walk straight, or jump. So it's safe to say that there's actual 'skill' involved; rather than just playing the game a millions times and memorizing the movements, you need to be on you're toes and adjust for any enemy movement.

That being said, overall I did pretty well. I had a few major mistakes that cost me valuable time, so there is room for some improvement.

  • Wait - if this says it's the NES version... Why do the graphics look so much better than the one I have?

  • @CordyBear1

Good question. Yeah this truly the NES version, I captured using a Pinnacle Dazzle composite -> usb device. Not sure why the graphics look so good, but I have a theory. Kirby's Adventure was one of the late generation NES games, and it pushed the graphics capabilities of the NES. In order to achieve this, the graphics flicker, alternating with every other frame (I even saw this stepping through my capture). My guess it that the video compression smoothed it out to look 'cleaner'.

  • Nice run. I hope to see the rest soon ;)

    impressive for non-tool assisted.

  • Thanks! I hope do some more recording this summer, that is unless my job eats me. :)

  • Are you playing on NES or VC

  • NES for sure.

  • Kirby's Adventure is one of those NES games that never really got the credit it deserved. I think a lot of people were thrown off by how childish it looked (and this is back in the day when 99% of all the games being made looked like they were designed for 5 year olds). But the joke's on them: Kirby's Adventure is one of the best platformers on the NES, a system that's already stacked to the hilt with great platformers.

  • Thats the best game for nes or one of the best!Good memories!!!

  • @paladindarknite The flashing star doors are the ones that end the levels, the regular doors just lead to the next area in a level.

  • 1:08-1:10 it looks like he's peeing

  • i kinda feel sorry for the tree. it must be hard to be a low level enemy that gets killed easily all the time

  • whats with the flashing star on the doors, some do flash others dont

  • When was the game made?

  • Nice job. I would love to do a speed run of the original game. I did a speedrun of the remake and I was pretty happy with myself.

  • I remember getting this new for my NES when I was around 11 - To me, the best game for that system was a tie - Between Kirby, and Mario 3 - Ah, brings back memories!

  • Oh the memories!

  • Kirby's Adventure has the best graphics of any NES game ever. Infact the NES sometimes has trouble handling the game.

  • @0010010101 Excellent game.better and more fun then games today!! classic game play!!!
