@venusironmaiden the character reason was because he never really recovered from his PTSD and after Frank killed his college "friend" he couldn't handle it anymore... as for the actor reason he probably wanted to do something different or get out of acting; or CBS wanted to get rid of him i read a lot about the show and i don't think it ever said
