It does have EXTREMELY high string tension, i bought one recently, mine won't even hold standard tuning, i'm having a professional look at it soon. When it is tuned (and feeling like the whole thing is about to snap in half) no, it's not that difficult to fret although easier when tuned down slightly, as i'm forced to do
Many Fender acoustic instruments are made in China. For example CD-100 or Sonoran.

i have two fender acoustic guitars, and both were made in china. i bought them from a reputable music store, and they both play butterfly

I read that that specific mandolin model has very high string tension even at standard tuning, so is it hard to fret?
