When you can't fit your box spring upstairs, do like we did. CUT IT in half! You're going to cut the box spring from side to side, not from top to bottom. Instructions: (1)Peel back the dust cover under the box spring half way. (2) Mark the mid points of the box spring and cut the cloth on the sides. (3)Take a small saw and cut the boards. (4)Bring the box spring upstairs and re-assemble using metal brackets (5) Use staple gun to re-attach the dust cover. I left the holes open on the sides of the boxspring because I decided not to sew it closed.

  • Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. We had the same problem and were totally stumped yesterday. Today, our box spring is under our mattress in our bedroom. You gotta love the Internet, and folks like you who take the time to provide a free public service. Peace!

  • @jmarg71 At the time I made this video, there were NO other videos like this on Youtube. I'm glad it helped you though.

  • So...that hole in the wall at 1:37 is from a previous, failed attempt I assume? Lol.

  • @dude3390 I'm not sure what hole you're referring to. This is our first attempt, and I'm pretty sure no one else has tried this before! Looking down the stairs on the left side is a breaker panel. The right side is just a wall. I don't think that opening between the wall and ceiling was supposed to be there originally, but all the other units have this.

  • Ha! Funny. I live in LP too... I simply do not understand why they had to add that weird wall addition to the stairs. There is no other way around it either... hauling it up through the window, whatever... I had to do the same thing.

  • @Defenseman619 Hi neighbor! lol Yea i tried everything. Cutting it in half was the only option, other than buying a new bed of course.

  • i cut mine right down the center, (long ways) added two 2x8 cut to length, added 3 hinges and it worked great. About four years ago, when we built our house, it opens and closes like a book. it worked so well ive done it to all of our box springs just to make them easier to move. And because i was bored..

  • Um. That's not a box "spring".

Glad it worked for you. :)

  • excellent video

  • U saved me!!!!!!

  • Awesome technique. We found ourselves in a similar situation. We were able to do it without cutting the fabric though. We just took the staples out from most of the side of the spring, and restapled after putting it back together. Thanks for the video !!!!

  • That foundation looks like mine. I cut it in half after watching your video and others on youtube but I took the fabric off which was connected with bunch of staples. It was pretty easy to take the staples out with a screwdriver. Goes back on easily as well. I didn't want to ruin the fabric. I also put 2 hinges on each side so it folds easily. I folded it up and carried up the stairs pretty easily by myself. And I later put the bracket on as well. It came out nice and seems real sturdy.
