Flybe Dash 8 Q400 lands at MAN on 15/12/2007 on emergency with fire engines holding short of the runway. Nothing spectacular happens, and apart from a hard landing, everything is fine. No idea what emercency the pilot had declared.

  • how do you know its an emergency then?

  • Heard it on the tower frequency, and all the fire engines that came out to line the runway in case of problems.

  • @peteboy1113 Q400, Continental Connection/Colgan Air. 45 pax, 4 crew. Plane was in known icing conditions & deicing was not on, pilot had 1/3 the hours in type as the 24-year-old copilot, they were in casual conversation during approach when it should've been "sterile cockpit" (no casual convo), situational unawareness due to nonsterile cockpit and resultant distraction. They were not paying attention to approach speed or icing until the stick-shaker kicked in...and then it was too late.

  • @Carlsbergx10 Not the aircraft design's or manufacturer's fault. SAS were investigated by the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority & cited as negligent for improper maintenance, acquitting Bombardier of any culpability. SAS suspended their Q400 fleet anyway to save their own face & still deny responsibility to this day.

  • I have no interest in SAS or Bombardier but I heard it might have something to do with the super cold conditions they fly in as well. Dunno for sure but that was how it was reported in the aviation mags here in Oz.

  • yeah I heard that too. Qantas here in Oz just ordered a stack more - a few weeks after SAS decided to flick theirs. Funny how in 1999/2000 (ish) Bombardier was about to cease production due to lack of orders before the fuel and other issues bit. On short sectors these are only slightly (say 10 minutes) slower than an e195 or b737 but much less fuel burn. People seem to trust jets more but its not justified.

  • Actually, SAS has a rather spotty reputation for aircraft maintenance, being it was their two Qs that suffered the gear collapses. They dropped the Q400 and rightly so: because they neither know or care about propjet maintenance. I will never fly SAS.

  • FlyBE do not operate between Heathrow and Glasgow.

  • Flybe have a Large fleet and considering the amount of aircraft they have they do rather well mechanically, most aircraft go in the hangars regularly for thorough routine checks.staff are friendly, the service is also good, most flights go out on time but on occasions some flights are delayed due to no fault of the airline. the aircraft are nice, the Emb 145's and Emb 195's are so comfortable but the dash aircraft can be a little noisy. no need to worry,Enjoy your flight.

  • i am going to fly -flybe this summer. LHR-GLASGOW. how is your airline.

  • yes and in buffalo ny, in feb -a dash 8 or q400, crashed into a house on approch to buf int. they said it was iceing and crew did the wrong thing. but i am not sure whos at fault.
