The social model of disability recognizes that impairment is an inherent part of our society and the lifecycle. It advocates that the physical and social barriers that inadvertently or habitually obstruct participation be recognized and removed.
Everyone benefits from inclusive practise such as more seating in public places, ramps, lifts, good lighting and when people are socially inclusive.
Please encourage students to disclose if they have a disability and know what to do and who to inform, within the limits of any requests for confidentiality. The Disability Advisers in Student Support Services will establish their learning support needs and advice you of any reasonable adjustments they may require.
People learn in different ways. You will better convey your subject expertise if you use a range of teaching styles and activities.
