2009 Mr A Geometry Rap

(CLICK FOR LYRICS) This is my 2nd annual Geometry rap! Last year I decided to offer my students a chance to earn extra credit by creating a Geometry themed rap. To be fair, I figured I'd embarrass myself by creating a rap too. Well, everyone had so much fun with this that I decided to make it an annual event. This video is of my brand new rap for 2009, done to a mix of Kanye West Golddigger.

My students did an awesome job this year with their own raps, and I am working on getting permission to post them as well. In the meantime, enjoy my new rap, and check out last years raps (by me and my students) on my YouTube channel!

LYRICS:

First day of school, hoping that my teacher is cool
He's got a pony tail, I think this years gonna rule

He said, I can tell you now this year is gonna be hard,
Geometry ain't Algebra but if you work you'll go far, just work hard

But then we started doing two column proofs and
I can't believe it's takin 5 steps to do subtraction

Reflexive, then we've got S-A-S and,
we're always trying to prove two triangles are congruent

OK I got this down, but now we're movin on
With inequalities, this is goin to far

With Parallelograms, oh where's this gonna end,
Every statement needs a reason, just check the diagram- you know why?

It's called proof for a reason,
We can't leave nothin out we can't make no bad assumptions

The givens all we've got we need to choose the right theorems,
I don't care how many steps it takes, I'm gonna prove it...

I ain't saying it's impossible, but man this problem don't seem logical-
Go 'head girl go 'head git down, Go 'head class go 'head

Now, we're starting to get the hang of this Geometry,
We know how to do a proof at least from what we can see

Everything was cool in 2, but then we go 3D
Surface area of a cone, are you kidding me?

But, we keep workin, learning
We're gonna get this stuff down before we take the regents,

We've got that ambition Mr. A, look in out eyes,
This week we might need help but by next week we'll be fine- so Mr. A,

Stick by our sides,
We're gonna download the podcast every night,
And we're gonna work on old review sheets, and green book solutions-
and show up on Tuesday, and REPRESENT for the regents!

@4keyes7272 Thanks for taking the time to post- I couldn't agree more. We need students who can solve difficult problems that haven't been seen yet, and to do that they'll need skill and creativity.
