well, as tragic as it is, it is a good thing Jane didnt end up running off with Mr. Lefroy for if she did, we would never have had the chance to read her wonderful books...

Jane loved him. They couldn't get married because his family depended entirely upon him and the income he brought. If they were married his uncle would disown him and they could not afford to send money to his family. In turn they would be poor an eventually that would lead to trouble between them. Therefore Jane makes the decision that they shouldn't be married. So in fact, their parting shows that Jane loves him too much to destroy his family.

I thought she did love him! Didn't they part because he was not succesfull yet and had depts, and that it would have destroyed their love, being poor?
I love all Jane Austens books. I particullarly love the happy endings all her characters get. It is so sad she didn't got one of her own!
I do think she made the right decision though, by not getting married to someone she didn't love. That would probably have destroyed her.
