Here's another advanced tutorial for my viewers!
Want your boring b&w images to POP? Read on.
1. Open up Photoshop CS3, CS4, or CS5 and select your image.
2. Duplicate the background layer.
3. Go to Image - Adjustments - Channel Mixer and check the box next to Monochrome to turn the colored image to b&w. Click OK.
Now depending on your image and its brightness, this step may vary among other users:
4. Go to Brightness/Contrast and check the box next to 'Use Legacy' and use these settings:
Brightness: +25
Contrast: -15
5. Go to Layer - New Layer and set the mode of the layer to 'Darken'. DO NOT mess with the opacity.
6. Using your Selection tool, make a box (optional) around the place you want your abstract color to be shown.
7. Right-click and select Fill and while in the Content section, click on the arrow on the drop down box and select Color. Choose a somewhat lighter version of the color you are planning on using for the Darkening will make any dark colors look hideous. Click OK.
8. And you're done! Go to Layer - Flatten Image. Note: If you aren't satisfied with the color, simply go back to the layer and change it.
Thank you and good luck! Go here to view the ending result: http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/9832/ilkugfd.png
