HP6910 Standby Issue

HP6910P running vista SP1 Business. Screensaver kicks in and turns screen blank. Machine recovers normally but not this time ! Hard disk makes clicking noise.. can't get out of it's standby loop.
Laptop was on AC and powersetting was set to *only* blank the screen, leave the machine alone for all the other options ( so no standby after xx hours).

after forced reboot, the eventlog spawned the following error

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000ea (0x83c80020, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP.


bugcheck? it's just a screenblank guys.

Update: HP support says that the "clicking" is actually the CD-Rom drive, not the HD

well the sound is too loud and too much of a "thump" to be the harddrive i think. Did you upgraded to the latest BIOS? they fix all sorts of shit

We did. I've heard later from an HP engineer that they believe it's the DVD rom drive (re) initialising constantly..

Same problem, same laptop too. Most times that the system stands by it nevers awaks back again! and I have to force shut down.
