This was probably So You Thinks best performance in Europe, I think he was a bit overrated by Ballydoyle because of the money they paid for him and he is not as good as they thought. He is obviously a very good horse to look at and he does have alot of class, he wont go down as one of the greats but could make a good stallion.
Disagree. He wants a mile way before he wants a mile and a half. Coolmore wants to get him back to a mile because unlike many people in Europe hey have seen his erly career races and obviously know the speed he shows at Bally. He was only so effective in aus because his high speed and ability to quicken in a stride could be used to much more advantage than it can in europe at 2000m ( due to the hugely questionable use of pacemakers.... Still can't work out why the best horses can't just race ea
@GBeret83 I think Ryan Moore not switching leads had something to do with SYT not showing the acceleration on dirt, SYT also had a terrible tactical ride in the Arc. I hope Coolmore have targets races for SYT in 2012 rather then spur of the moment decision like last season. After the Irish Champion stakes they had no idea of what SYT would run in ARC, Qipco Champion Stakes or BC Classic. In the end they ended running him in all 3. 4 G1 races in 4 different countrys.
@forsoup, SYT didn't show quite the same kind of acceleration on conventional dirt that he has on turf. But he was by no means disgraced in the BC Classic, either. Knowing that good turf horses have fared very well on synthetic surfaces over the years, I wonder if Ballydoyle might not take a shot at this year's Dubai World Cup with SYT? I think the distance and surface in the DWC would suite SYT down to the ground. They sent Cape Blanco last year, and I believe SYT would fare as well or better.
@GBeret83 Absolutely. How many High Chapparal's do we see who have more speed than stamina? His cruising speed should be used to his advantage in the top mile and a half races because we know he stays- he ran on best of all in the Arc and was hugely unlucky with the draw.
For my money, they have ridden him far too prominently all season and he is often 'there to be shot at' a furlong out.
When he's had something to aim at he ran his best races- winning the Eclipse and 4th in the Arc.
@forsoup, I think you may be right. At the very least, SYT needs to stay racing at 10f. Not a mile. I don't really understand why the folks at Ballydoyle are panicking concerning SYT. Everyone knew the G1 races he'd be running in Europe would be a good deal tougher than he faced in Australia. He was beaten 2 times at 10f on turf in Europe this season. Both times at Ascot, and both times by less than a half length by 2 quality horses. The BC Classic was always a gamble having never raced on dirt.
12f won't trouble SYT he ran third in the Melbourne Cup. The class of of horses in Europe is generally higher than in Australia and I wouldn't be shocked at all if SYT can't win the Arc it but the distance wont be a problem. I remember they asked Bart Cummings if they thought the 3200 m at Melbourne would be too much for him and Bart said he'd keep running for 5 miles if nobody told him to stop.
@SvendBosanvovski OMG Im so scared for SYT Meaning the uphill in the track, I dont want the jockey
he has, that gets him in the right place. Seriously I hope the felling is wrong BUT, I think he might get ran down in the last last (200metres) IF he does WIn OMG serious party after, even though it would be about 2am OZ time.
@GBeret83 I have no doubt whatsoever that SYT will stay the 12f. Longchamp won't be easy. Its a long straight, but Seamus has had a really good feel of the horse and he should be super fit by now. It wouldn't surprise me to see Snow Fairy and Workforce fighting out the finish with him. 3yos enjoy a disproportionate weight advantage, but the best 3yo wont be there and those in the race are average. Sarafina was unlucky last year, may go one better, but rates lower than the other three.

Convinced this horse needs a mile and a half.
What ne needs is a truly run race because he will stay and he will travel beautifully all the way around.
Astonished that AOB is dropping him to 1m next season.
