The Pet Shop Boys are better known for their chart topping pop tunes, but front man Neil Tennant reveals the band's latest project, composing a ballet score called "The Most Incredible Thing" for London's Sadler's Wells Theatre. (March 17)
#mickeyirish: The table has been used throughout interpretive dance in a variety of ways - perhaps inspired by Kurt Joos', but not the same. Bravo for engaging more people to dance, even though this is very rhythmic and lyrical (perhaps I should withhold judgment until I see the entire ballet). DK
Saw the ballet last night - it was fantastic. If you get to know the tracks from the CD first, it is really easy to follow. Programmes are really good and a snip at only £4 (or £3 if you buy in advance, like I did). All in all a very memorable performance and I was lucky enough to bump into Javier De Frutos in the afternoon outside the theatre, who signed my CD and Mr Tennant was in the audience that night and as he left at the end, someone spotted him and we all burst into spontaneous applause!
@ElectroWOWofficial It's The Grind. It will be not a single, but it's the only song with Neil singing in the ballet ost. It's a reworking of Baby a track written by PSB for Alcazar.
Someone is ripping off Kurt Jooss's "The Green Table" from 1932 for that opening scene. I can't make out whether it is an homage to that masterpiece or downright thievery. Either way, the Pet Shop Boys contributing music for a ballet is a step in the right direction toward integrating something modern into a form that has gone a bit cold (aside from Kylian, Duato, Forsythe, MacGregor and a few others).

Has Joanna Lumley or Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) had any more work with the Pet Shop Boys?
